In January of this year, I was given the opportunity to narrate my first audiobook ever. I was nervous to tackle this new genre of voiceover I had been avoiding for my entire career. I was scared of not doing the book justice, of not being engaging enough, of the sheer length of the audio that needed to be recorded! But, after narrating my first book, “The Book Tour” by Emily Ohanjanians, at Penguin Random House in North Hollywood, I felt invigorated. And before I knew it, I was offered my second book to narrate, “Beirut Fragments” by Jean Said Makdisi.
This beautiful and heart-wrenching book is a war memoir about Jean’s experience in Lebanon during the civil war and why she decided to stay amongst the chaos. The memoir is both poetic and grounded, re-telling stories from her home in Beirut and how, overnight, everything changed. My father and his entire family are from Beirut and experienced the civil war as well, so this book felt especially important for me to narrate. I want to give special thanks to Penguin Random House and to my director, Peter Ganim. You can listen on Audible, Google Play, Apple Books, Spotify, Kobo and Libro FM
